My name is Melissa Mann. I am so excited to be teaching Kindergarten B this year! I have been a teacher at Heritage Christian Academy since 2006. Before joining the Kindergarten team in 2010, I taught grade 2 (off and on) for 4 years, between going on 2 maternity leaves, in 2007 and 2009; and I taught grade 4 and elementary music. I have loved my time here at Heritage and am enthusiastically looking forward to another amazing year in Kindergarten.
I grew up in a loving Christ-centered home in small town Saskatchewan. I attended a great little church where I had many opportunities to be part of children’s ministry and worship team. I graduated from grade 12 in 1999 and moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to attend the University of Regina. I took a 4-year Bachelor of Elementary Education and graduated in 2003. While in Regina I attended Faith Baptist Church where I was involved in a number of volunteer opportunities. While in Regina I met my husband Ryan, while he was a student and employee at Canadian Bible College. We got married in May 2003. Then in June of 2003, Canadian Bible College moved to Calgary, where it became Alliance University College & Nazarene University College (now Ambrose University College), so we followed the school to Calgary. We began attending RockPointe Church (formerly Bow Valley Alliance Church) and are very involved in worship arts and tech team. Ryan was working for the college as their Graphic Designer and I got a job at the Eau Claire YMCA Child Development Centre. This was a great experience for me. I loved working with the younger children and was responsible for the 5 year old group. While working there I was applying for different teaching positions, but soon realized that I needed some classroom experience. So, in September of 2005, I left the YMCA and began substitute teaching for the Calgary Board of Education and a number of private Christian schools in Calgary. In March of 2006, I began working at Heritage. I went on maternity leave in December 2007, when my son Cohen was born. I came back in January 2009 for 6 month and then my daughter Reaghan was born and I was away for another maternity leave. In May 2010 I returned full-time for 2 months to cover a temporary contract. Then in September 2010 I began a new and exciting challenge - Kindergarten! I am thrilled to be teaching KB again this year and am so excited about everything God has in store for our class! I hope this is just the beginning of many wonderful years teaching kindergarten (especially since I’ve gone from grade 4 to grade 2 to kindergarten and don’t really have any lower to go!).
Thank you so much for giving me the great opportunity and blessing of teaching your children this year.
God Bless,
